Running a small business is messy. It’s creative, fulfilling, exhausting, and sometimes... it goes completely sideways. Orders get mixed up. Website glitches hide listings. I accidentally send out a typo-filled email blast with the wrong coupon code. (Yep, that happened.)
Let’s just say—sometimes I totally “drop the glitter jar.”
The Truth About Small Business Life
If you've been around Makeropolis for a while, you know we run this shop with heart. It's just me behind the camera, packing tape, listing descriptions, donation sorting, customer emails, and everything in between.
That means I'm learning as I go—often in real time, in full view of all of you.
And some days? I miss the mark.
Sometimes a package is delayed.
Sometimes I post the wrong picture.
Sometimes I say “ships today!” when it very much does not.
What I’ve Learned from Screwing Up
Here’s what I know now:
-
People are kind when you’re honest.
-
Owning the mistake is better than pretending it didn’t happen.
-
Small business isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up and trying again tomorrow.
This shop isn’t polished or perfect—but it’s real. It’s run on scraps, big dreams, and the occasional late-night packing panic. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Why I’m Sharing This
Because if you’re a fellow maker, artist, or entrepreneur, I want you to know—you’re not alone when you mess up.
We all drop the ball.
We all hit publish too soon.
We all, at some point, “absolutely wreck the whole spreadsheet.”
But we also keep showing up.
What are you making today?
